Rising from the Ashes - Casa de Mouraz

Buying from family vineyards allows us to build good relations with our suppliers and develop a good knowledge of their wines. Naturally, friendships grow and we feel their pain when things don't go to plan as happens so often in the natural world. Usually, it's a ruined crop as a result of the weather or disease but in the case of Casa de Mouraz in Portugal, it was the devastating fires that threatened their vineyard's future.

Dylan had been to visit Sara Dionisio and Antonio Ribeiro in September 2017. They are pioneers of organic and biodynamic viticulture and have earned world-wide acclaim. Little did he know as he enjoyed the company of the lively couple that an email would follow in the autumn detailing their losses in the fires. Over 50% of their vineyards were destroyed along with the house where Antonio was born and their warehouse where the wine was stored.

This spirited family have their work cut out but at least the winery escaped the clutches of the flames and no-one was hurt. Through crowd funding, they hope to raise enough money to rebuild the business and we are proud to invest in the new project to replant the vineyards and reinstate the infrastructure. We look forward to our investment's return in the form of their stunning wines in 2022!

Codi o’r Llwch – Her y Gwinwyr

Trwy brynu gan winllannoedd teulu gobeithiwn ddatblygu perthynas dda gyda’n cyflenwyr a gwybodaeth ddwys o’u cynnyrch. Yn naturiol, mae cyfeillgarwch yn tyfu a theimlwn eu poen pan maent yn mynd trwy amseroedd caled, fel y gwelir yn aml yn y byd amaeth. Ond fel arfer, cnwd sy’n difethaf oherwydd tywydd neu glefyd, felly pan roedd ein cyflenwr o Casa de Mouraz yn dioddef o ddinistr a oedd yn fygythiad i ddyfodol y winllan roedd yn dipyn o sioc.

Ym Mis Medi 2017 aeth Dylan i weld Sara Dionisio ac Antonio Ribeiro o Casa de Mouraz, arloeswyr gwinwyddaeth Organig a Biodynamic yn ardal Dão Portiwgal gyda chanmoliaeth fyd-eang. Ni feddyliodd wrth fwynhau sgwrs a thaith trwy’r winllan gyda’r cwpl bywiog ac ecsentrig y byddai’n derbyn e-bost mewn ychydig mwy na mis, yn adrodd am y difrod a ddioddefwyd o’r tanau a chydiodd ym Mhortiwgal Mis Hydref.

Dinistriodd y tanau dros 50% o’u gwinllannoedd, ble roedd Sara wedi dangos un winwydden dros hanner can mlwydd oed i Dylan. Hefyd, collwyd y tŷ ble gafodd Antonio eu eni a’r storfa ble mae’r poteli o win yn cael eu cadw. Diolch maent fod pawb yn ddiogel ac o leiaf mae’r adeilad ble maent yn cynhyrchu’r gwin wedi dianc effaith y tan. Er hyn, mae gwaith mawr o’u blaenau ond, gydag ysbryd y teulu’n uchel a trwy ‘crowd funding’ y gobaith yw codi digon o arian i atgyfodi’r busnes llewyrchus a blaengar yma. Bydd hyn yn caniatáu iddynt ail-blannu eu gwinllannoedd a’r isadeiledd. Am eich buddsoddiad, cewch dalebau i brynu gwin yn 2022 fel rhan o’r ‘perk’, wel, fel mae’r Saeson yn dweud, ‘It would be rude not to!’

Mae gwinoedd Portiwgal yn haeddu mwy o sylw a byddwn yn buddsoddi yn Casa de Mouraz i gefnogi pobl hyfryd sy’n cynhyrchu gwinoedd arbennig o dda. Rwy’n edrych ymlaen at 2022!
